Practical Tips

While I occasionally represent individuals, the bulk of my time is dedicated to representing corporate entities.

The more I speak with companies, the more surprised I am that they are not protecting their IP internally and online.  For the uninitiated, here are just a few brief practical tips (not intended to be legal advice):

  • Protect your IP internally by training your employees how to recognize IP and how to handle it.
  • Also, for any employee who could potentially handle IP, require them to sign a NDA to the extent permitted by law.
  • For the Internet, educate those responsible for creating content on the dangers and consequences of copyright and trademark infringement.
  • Protect your good name by buying your “.com” for other TLD extenders such as .net and .org.
  • Search your company’s name and the names of its principals and executives in search engines to see if there is anything negative out there about them.

I hope this helps.  If you have further questions, please contact me, Eric Crusius via e-mail ecrusius@centreconsult.com or by telephone: (703) 288-2800 x236.
